Sleepy Hollow

Practice analysis paragraph Sleepy Hollow – Essay Body paragraph formatting: TEC

Sleepy Hollows clearly represents the elements of cinematography this has been used in the scene we watched in class. The genre specific elements of this film is super natural suspense horror. One element of cinematography is framing of this scene this includes how they are always using the rule of thirds. An example of this is when they are standing in front of the tree and the shot of Johnny Depp. The camera positions are used very efficiently for example when they all look up at the tree making the tree of death look powerful and them weak, by using high and low angle shots. The focus of this scene is magnificent in the way how they can actually focus it on one thing while the other is moving, for example when they are chasing the guy with no head in the forest it has them clear but the background moving fast as though everything is blurry but it truly isn't. Exposure is used in this scene when they are chasing through the forest as well, when the lighting strikes. A good example of another element of cinematography is the movement when Johnny Depp is axing the tree of death, this is the choice of camera movement. the speed increases when Johnny is pulling the tree apart, and then the heads all fall out and when they are chasing through the forest again. the perspective affect that can be used on film really does make films look more interesting this is used when Johnny Depp is axing the tree and when the innocent little boy is lighting his lantern. Overall these examples prove that this scene out of the film Sleepy Hollows uses every aspect of cinematography.
