Questions about editing:
- how can we do a split screen video?
- how can we put a symbol at the top of the screen that presents that its recording?
- I hope both of these ideas turn out.

Concept for clip
Explain what
narrative/images the clip will contain
|
Type of Clip: Narrative
Concept of Clip:
There are two pairs
of friends with different types of personalities there is the two nerd girls
and two ‘glamorous’ girls. The nerd girls wish to become as glamorous as the
pretty girls. The story starts with comparing the stereotypical actions of
nerds and pretty girls, showing that the glamorous girls supposedly have an
easier life where they are clean, pretty and healthy and the nerds are the
complete opposite. The nerds desire to be just like the glamorous people
because they think if they were pretty maybe they could have no worries in
the world. As the nerds are gazing out the window and admiring the glamorous
girls, they notice and ask them to come over. The glamorous girls give the
nerdy girls a make over and finally the nerds feel gorgeous. At the end it
leaves you with an unwanted twist for the nerds. The nerds wake up from their
dream and realise there life isn’t that bad after all.

Message
What message will
your clip contain or what is its purpose?
Style
What look and feel
will your clip have?
|
Message:
The message attached
to our music video is that who else can be better then than you? Just be
yourself. The film sends out the message that no matter what you look like
the right people will love you for who you really are. This is shown through
the way in which the nerds end up waking up and it all being a dream, showing
you can’t change so people will like you. We see that the even though the
glamorous and nerds stereotypically seem like they wouldn’t be friends they
ended up getting along well and this is where the nerds realise that in order
to be irreplaceable one must always be different.
Style:
The look and feel of
the clip is amusing, happy and joyful. This film will give someone a good
laugh when they are feeling down and entertain them. It
is a light-hearted plot consistently and deliberately designed to amuse and
provoke laughter by exaggerating the situation, the language, action,
relationships and characters. It describes various forms of comedy through
using stereotypical characters to make the situations funnier.
|
|
Technical codes
Explain the ideas
you have about camera work, transition devices, lighting, special effects,
framing and composition
|
Technical codes:
The clip will include shots of dreams and the
present. So the audience is left with a twist at the end that wasn’t
expected. The transitions going to be used will usually be cuts but
dissolving will also be added. The main transition will be spilt screens to
compare the nerds and glamorous lifestyles. The clip
will be done in ambient light; no need for additional lighting, except when
they both wake up we have used dimming lighting to start the shot dark and
gradually get lighter, to make a rising of the sun effect. To match the
comedy or emotion of characters the appropriate camera movement and shot
types were chosen to display this such as close ups or for highlighting the
emotion of the characters.
|
|
Audio codes
What is the song
about and how do the lyrics relate to the visuals you have selected? Will you
be adding an additional sound?
|
Audio Codes:
I think the original songs meaning is that no matter
how famous she is, she is still the same girl that she used to be before she
was famous. The world might change the way they look at her, but she really
hasn't changed. These lyrics do relate to the visuals I have selected in a
way because they have the same concept of no matter what you do you will
never be able to change who you really are and that is the message our clip
conveys. The lyrics also do relate to some of the visuals for example “poppin
champagne”, the nerds and glamorous girls will be popping champagne and
cheering their glasses. The additional sounds that will be added is just a
few gasps and one record player breaking when the nerds walk into school the
song will pause and that sound effect will play.
|
|
Pace
What sort of pace
does your song have and how will this be reflected and created in your clip?
Written codes
If you are using any
written codes, what text will you use? What is its significance?
Symbolic codes
Will there be any
symbols in your clip and what will they be? Will you repeat any images or use
a motif? How will the symbolism you have used contribute to the message of
your clip?
|
Pace:
The song
has a average/fast pace therefore the shots will be short and quick to match
this and transitions will mostly consist of cuts to fit between sections of
the lyrics, it may be fast paced but the lyrics have slow gaps between each
line with music playing between.
Written codes: The
written codes that are going to be included in our music video is the title
“Glamorous Wannabe’s” and the credits at the end of the film. The
significance of the title represents that the nerds want to be just like the
glamorous girls and the credits are there to show what music was used, who
starred in the film and the creators of the film.
Symbolic codes: The symbol in our clip is the societies stereotype
of nerd people compared to glamorous people. The images repeated are the
nerds and glamorous characters and their symbolic stereotyped clothing items
and accessories for example the nerds books/floss and the glamorous girls
makeup. The symbolism used contributes to our film because without the nerds
and the glamorous girls the whole message of being yourself and who you
really are wouldn’t be presented.

Key elements of mise-en-scene to be used
Explain the settings
needed and outline key props and costumes needed
|
Key elements of mise-en-scene to be used:
The settings will be
at my house, on the school grounds and at Mac Donald’s. Props required
includes make up (for glamorous girls) and books (for nerds). Costumes
required for nerds include glasses, bow tie/tie, nerdy shoes, buttoned up
shirt, spinney hat and baggy shorts. Costumes required for glamorous girls
include floppy hat, sunglasses, nice clothes, high heels and big fluffy
jacket.
|
|
Appeal
What things in your
clip do you think will appeal to a youth audience?
|
Appeal:
Overall the clip
will appeal to a youth audience because of the comedy content which all
teenagers are interested in. Also teenagers will be able to relate to the stereotyped
groups of friends in the film, as most schools these days are so judgmental. Hopefully
it will get youth to realise that judging a book by its cover is completely
wrong. The use of technical codes and such a popular well know song it will definitely
draw the audience into loving the music video.
